Larry & Joe - Nuevo South Train
Larry & Joe filmed this video on the hottest day of the year - August 27th, 2022.
Joe's buddy Anthony Simpkins was in town and they decided to meet Larry on the construction site for lunch.
Nuevo South Train is the title track of Larry & Joe's debut album, and it's come a long way from what you see here. Joe had just finished the lyrics, and the song hadn't yet found its form. You'll hear the difference when you see a live show now. This video is as primitive and raw as it gets!
More remarkable than the transformation of the song, though, is the transformation of Larry's career. You'll notice his outfit here, which isn't a costume.
While Larry's a one-in-a-million musician, he hung up a 25-year career in music after his migration from Venezuela to the United States to work the only job he could find: construction.
It's noble and respectable work. Things must be built. Larry was grateful for the job to support his wife and daughters, and he made lifelong friends. But after five, six, seven years and many work-related injuries, he had stopped dreaming about his return to music. Beyond heartbroken, he became numb.
In December of 2021, Joe cold-called him to play a show in Durham. It was magic, undeniable, and the night is well-documented on the internet. Both men call it "love at first sound."
Fast forward to January 2023. Larry quit construction to tour full time. It was a big leap of faith. But it worked. It's working. And the joy is contagious!
Bienvenidos al Nuevo South, y'all! Can't wait to see you out there somewhere. And happy 3 Year Friendiversary to Larry & Joe!
